Linear Park is situated along the riverside in Carrick-on-Shannon. It’s a beautiful spot for a post-dinner stroll or to simply relax and watch the sunset. You can begin your walk from the Quayside and follow the path along the River Shannon. Take some time to observe the cruisers and pleasure boats navigating the river, as well as the elegant swan families. You can borrow a book from the Borrow Library and enjoy it during your visit.
The park is adorned with native trees, shrubs, and ornamental grasses, and there are plenty of seating areas and picnic spots where you can unwind and appreciate the natural surroundings.
Make sure to stop and admire the beautiful sculpture of Saint Eidin, a local seventh century Saint, created by the West Limerick sculptor Will Fogarty of Fear na Coillte Chainsaw Sculptures. Saint Eidin’s feast day is on 5th July, and she established her convent on the shore of Lough Eidin, which is now known as Drumharlow Lake, just two miles from Carrick-on-Shannon. She passed away sometime before 700 AD.
As you continue your walk, you’ll come across a dedicated biodiversity garden, abundant with flora and fauna that attract insects and bees, crucial for our environment.
